Fez court sentences Taza provincial council president to six months
The criminal chamber of the first-instance court in Fez sentenced the president of the Taza provincial council to six months in prison and a fine of one thousand dirhams.
He must also pay more than 15.8 million dirhams to the state and the tax authority, plus one hundred thousand dirhams in civil damages.
The other defendants were ordered to pay accumulated tax debts of about 211 million dirhams and 370,000 dirhams in civil compensation, while six people were acquitted.
The case followed investigations by Fez judicial police into fraud, forgery of documents and tax evasion.
The rulings remain subject to appeal.
