Spanish newspaper: Nador West Med port boosts Morocco's maritime standing
Spanish journalist Raúl Izquierdo argues that the construction of the Nador West Med port will strengthen Morocco's maritime position regionally and internationally, at the expense of the Spanish ports of Valencia and Algeciras.
In an article published by the newspaper As, he notes that the arrival of the first giant Super Post-Panamax STS crane marks a decisive step towards commissioning the complex, with commercial operations due to begin in the last quarter of 2026.
Annual capacity is estimated at three million containers, expandable by a further two million, plus 25 million tonnes of fuel and 7 million tonnes of coal.
The project aims to consolidate Morocco's logistics role in the Mediterranean and support regional development.
