Calls for a local hospital in Nador
The Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights (Azghengan branch) has called on the provincial authorities of Nador to advocate for the creation of a local hospital in Nador, or to transform the current hospital complex of the Hassani Hospital into a local health facility, to ensure the continuity of basic health services.
This request is contained in a letter addressed to the governor of the province, as the hospital services of the regional hospital are to be transferred to its new headquarters in Selouane.
The league stressed that limiting services to Selouane could create a health vacuum in Nador and its surroundings, recalling that the national health map provides for a local hospital for populations of 45,000 to 120,000 inhabitants, while Nador lacks one despite a population exceeding that threshold.
It also noted that the transfer of services to Selouane would impose additional travel on residents of Nador and neighboring municipalities, a burden especially in emergency cases.
The league called for maintaining emergency services and basic specialties at the Hassani Hospital and for planning the creation of a local hospital equipped with the necessary human resources and equipment.
