The National Agency for Water and Forests has classified the prefectures of Tangier-Asilah and Fahs-Anjra at the maximum risk level for forest fires, in a bulletin covering 11 to 15 September.
The high-risk level covers six provinces in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region: Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Larache, Ouezzane, Tétouan and M'diq-Fnideq.
Nationally, the maximum-risk list also includes Taounate, Taza, Essaouira and Taroudant.
The agency relies on predictive maps based on the nature of forest cover, its flammability, climate forecasts and topography.
Residents near forest areas are urged to avoid risky activities and report any suspicious smoke.
