Noureddine Moudiane Withdraws from Legislative Race in Al Hoceima
The parliamentarian for the Al Hoceima constituency and former head of the Istiqlal parliamentary group for unity and egalitarianism, Noureddine Moudiane, has announced he will not run again in the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026, preferring to make way for other activists after three decades of parliamentary representation.
This decision follows the confirmation by the Al Hoceima Court of Appeal in April of a first-instance ruling sentencing him to six months in prison in a defamation and blackmail case brought by former MP Rafia El Mansouri.
The announcement came after a meeting with Istiqlal Party Secretary-General Nizar Baraka, where he was tasked with proposing names of new candidates.
The party praised his parliamentary career, which it described as positive.
