The Nador Court of First Instance has decided to postpone the examination of the files of 50 people prosecuted in connection with the Beni Ensar events linked to attempts at irregular migration, in response to requests for personal appearance and the provision of lawyers.
According to the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, Nador branch, 43 people are in detention and seven are released, spread across 13 files.
The charges include insulting officials, using violence, and damaging property.
During the hearing, 11 detainees appeared in person, while the rest participated remotely, and several requested to appear in person.
The court postponed the files of those who requested to appear to August 13, while those who requested a delay to secure lawyers were postponed to August 17.
Observers consider the postponement a procedural measure aimed at guaranteeing the rights of the defense and does not imply any judgment on responsibility.
The files are divided into 13 separate cases, meaning the facts and charges differ for each person.
