Youth initiative to reforest Mount Nador after fires
Tunisian youth Mohamed El Béji has launched an environmental initiative to restore areas damaged by fires on Mount Nador, between Rafraf and Ghar El Melh in Bizerte governorate.
The first tree was planted at the affected site, paving the way for a comprehensive reforestation program.
El Béji explained that the initiative aims to turn the ecological disaster into an opportunity for collective action, coordinating efforts of volunteers, authorities, forest administration, and environmental associations.
Actual planting is scheduled for November, after site preparation and clearing of debris.
The initiative has drawn interest from several associations.
Planned species include carob, olive, Aleppo pine, and local plants adapted to the terrain.
The first sapling, a 'drou', symbolizes nature's resilience.
El Béji stressed that the forest administration remains responsible for rehabilitation, with youth support.
