Two Women Killed, Two Men Injured as Car Falls into Algeciras Port
Two women died and two men were injured, one seriously, after their car fell into the waters of Algeciras port in southern Spain, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, as they were preparing to board a ferry bound for Tangier.
The accident occurred around 00:24 at pier number 1 of Galera port, where the car veered off and fell from the pier ramp into the water, with four people on board.
The passengers had passed Spanish National Police checks before heading to the vehicle waiting area, but the car continued for reasons still under investigation, amid thick fog.
The two men in the front seats managed to get out and reach the water surface, and were taken to hospital, one in critical condition.
The two women remained trapped in the car, which sank quickly, and Civil Guard divers recovered their bodies; they were aged 43 and 71.
Several rescue teams were involved, including maritime rescue, Civil Guard, police, firefighters, and medical services.
