Magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes Al Hoceima

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded on Wednesday morning in Al Hoceima province, with its epicentre in the commune of Tamsint at a depth of about ten kilometres.
Residents of the city and nearby areas felt a brief tremor, which caused no material or human damage.
The quake coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the 24 February 2004 earthquake, which left many victims and heavy damage.
Experts attribute the frequency of these tremors to the province's sensitive geographic location on active tectonic fault lines between the African and Eurasian plates, explaining the earthquakes of 1910, 1994 and 2004.
They stress the need for strict anti-seismic construction standards to limit future risks.
