Data from Spain's traffic authority show that the average age of vehicles registered in occupied Melilla rose from 15.17 years in 2020 to 16.45 years in 2025, above the Spanish average of 14.92 years.
The total fleet grew slightly from 72,353 to 73,465 vehicles, but its age structure shifted toward older cars.
Vehicles over 25 years old jumped from 16,270 to 23,594, rising from 22.49% to 32.12% of the fleet.
Cars under four years old fell from 8,665 to 7,072, dropping from 11.98% to 9.63%.
The figures follow economic shifts after Morocco tightened border controls and ended the informal smuggling trade that linked the city to Nador and nearby areas.
