A young man born in 1980 died in a road accident at night on the road leading to Selouane, near the Taourirt Bousta bend and the new petrol station, after being hit by a car whose driver fled the scene.
The area has long suffered a public lighting outage, leaving it pitch dark and increasing the risk of such accidents.
Residents have repeatedly demanded the restoration of lighting to no avail.
The gendarmerie has opened an investigation to track down the fugitive driver, after the victim was transferred to the morgue at Nador hospital.
