An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Driouch province in northeastern Morocco, according to local sources.
No human or material damage has been reported so far.
The area forms part of the usual seismic activity in northern Morocco, where mild tremors occur regularly without causing major damage.
Residents are monitoring the situation while awaiting official data from seismic monitoring centres.
