Political deadlock in Azghanghan draws rights criticism
The municipal council of Azghanghan in Nador province failed to hold its ordinary May 2026 session due to a lack of quorum, amid mutual accusations among its members.
The local branch of the Moroccan Human Rights League voiced deep concern over the paralysis, saying it affects the running of municipal services and the pace of development.
It held all elected members, both majority and opposition, responsible for the absence of projects meeting residents' expectations.
The group urged putting the public interest first, opening a transparent public debate on the causes of the deadlock and an urgent intervention by authorities, stressing accountability under the Constitution.
