Azghanghane deputy mayor removed over bribery conviction

The province of Nador has initiated the dismissal of the first vice-president of the Azghanghane communal council, following a final judicial conviction for bribery.
The decision came after the Court of Cassation rejected the appeal, making the first-instance and appeal rulings final and irrevocable, legally requiring an end to his duties.
The case dates back to May 2025, when Nador security services arrested the official in flagrante delicto receiving around ten thousand dirhams, following a citizen's complaint accompanied by recordings.
The incident caused widespread outrage in Azghanghane and revived calls for greater transparency and integrity in local governance.
Observers believe the decision could reshape the balance of power within the council and reinforce the principle of accountability.
