The National Institute of Geophysics recorded a magnitude 3.7 earthquake on the Richter scale in Driouch province on Monday.
The epicentre was located off the province's coast at 12:40:41 (GMT+1), at a depth of 26 kilometres, at the intersection of 35.594 degrees north latitude and 3.662 degrees west longitude.
The tremor brings the number of quakes recorded in the province since the start of 2021 to 23.
Geologists and seismologists attribute the recurrence to a main shock that struck on 21 January 2016 at a depth of six kilometres in the Alboran Sea area, where more than 1,700 aftershocks were recorded, the strongest reaching 6.3.
The current tremors are considered aftershocks of that event.
