The pioneer schools network in Al Hoceima keeps expanding: it covers 100 of 144 primary schools and 12 of 38 middle schools, with full rollout expected next year.
Some 89,288 pupils attend public education, taught by 4,668 teachers.
The year begins with diagnostic assessments that determine each learner's level, before they are placed in three groups: advanced, average and struggling.
Four weeks of intensive support follow, then explicit teaching.
Ahmed Boukmakh school in Imzouren enters its third year with 565 pupils in 19 classes.
Teachers reported to work on 3 September for workshops on the new teaching approaches.
