Construction work on a massive Chinese tire manufacturing project was launched on Friday in the commune of Amjau, Driouch province, with an investment of over $675 million on an area of 52 hectares.
The project is led by Shandong Yongsheng Rubber Group through its Moroccan subsidiary GOLDENSUN TIRE MOROCCO, and is the largest of its kind in Africa.
The ceremony was attended by Investment Minister Karim Zidane, the wali of the Oriental region, the governor of Driouch province, and other officials.
The project includes an integrated tire production unit according to international standards, research and logistics centers, with an annual production capacity of 18 million tires.
It will create about 1,737 direct jobs and hundreds of indirect jobs.
Located near the Nador West Med port, the project enjoys a strategic position.
Work is expected to be completed by early 2027.
The project is supported by European funding of over €300 million and strengthens the region's industrial dynamism.
