Two French nationals were killed on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in the crash of a light aircraft near Chérif El Idrissi airport in Al Hoceima, shortly after takeoff.
The plane had departed from Montpellier and stopped at Al Hoceima airport to refuel before resuming its flight, but crashed minutes later near the airport.
Local authorities, civil protection, and security services rushed to the scene to secure the area and conduct inspections.
The causes of the crash remain unknown pending technical investigations.
The couple was returning to Morocco, where they resided, after a visit to Montpellier, and was heading to Tit Mellil airport near Casablanca when they encountered a technical problem that caused the plane to hit the ground.
