Waste angers residents of Ait Mait in Driouch
Residents of the commune of Ait Mait, in Driouch province, are suffering from a widespread accumulation of waste in several areas, which has sparked their discontent and they have threatened to protest if the commune does not address the problem.
Garbage piles up along main roads, in front of a primary school and near homes, due to the lack of containers and a dedicated landfill.
Mohamed El Harouachi, an association activist, said the situation threatens residents' health and natural resources, blaming local officials and demanding an urgent solution.
He noted that the absence of a landfill pushes residents to dump waste in undesignated places, triggering reactions from landowners who threaten legal action against violators.
The newspaper's correspondent received no response from the commune's president despite attempts to contact him.
