Atroukot, a forgotten commune on the margins of development in Driouch
The commune of Atroukot in Driouch province suffers from marginalization and exclusion from development projects, according to a statement by the 'Thariouine' association for development and social and cultural affairs.
The commune was excluded from projects approved during the extraordinary session of the Driouch provincial council on April 17, 2025, without explanation, while neighboring communes received significant allocations.
The association accused the province's representatives in parliament and the president of the provincial council, members of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, of ignoring the commune, and criticized the Oriental regional council for focusing on the city of Oujda.
At the local level, the association held the president of Atroukot commune, a member of the National Rally of Independents, responsible for failing to defend residents' interests due to individual management and internal divisions.
The association's president, Khaled Chahoute, said that what is happening to the commune is not a coincidence but the result of selective policies.
The association called on authorities to intervene urgently and open an investigation, urging residents to peaceful mobilization to demand fair development.
