Oriental council member protests lack of basic facilities in Driouch

During the regular session of the Oriental Regional Council, Boujemaa Achen, a council member from the Democratic Alliance Party, protested the lack of basic facilities in Driouch province, saying it is disadvantaged compared to other provinces.
He pointed to the absence of new schools to accommodate students, contributing to school dropout, and weak road infrastructure isolating some areas.
He also criticized the health situation, describing Driouch hospital as lacking equipment and medical staff.
He demanded equality among provinces, questioning why millions are spent on sports stadiums while areas remain without water and electricity.
Regional president Abdel Nabi Baïwi responded by refuting these claims, stating that 90 million dirhams were allocated for opening roads in Jerada and Driouch, and that Driouch benefited from opening rural tracks.
He referred the education issue to the ministry, mentioning he had written to commune presidents six times without response, and refused to build without suitable land.
