Imam killed in attack in Driouch province

The douar of Ibnouha, in the commune of El Mahajer, in the province of Driouch, was shaken at dawn on Friday, March 6, by a tragic crime that claimed the life of a mosque imam aged about 65, while he was leading the dawn prayer.
According to initial information, a man of about 45, suspected of being imbued with extremist ideas, attacked the imam with a stick, causing a serious head wound that led to his immediate death.
The incident caused panic among the worshippers.
The suspect, who had previously been deported from France for praising terrorist acts, was living in an abandoned building near the douar of Laassara.
After the crime, he tried to flee but was arrested without resistance by local authorities and the royal gendarmerie.
He was placed in police custody on the orders of the public prosecutor.
The crime caused shock and great sadness among the population, while authorities opened an investigation.
