Meeting in Driouch on rationalizing irrigation water use
The Moulouya Hydraulic Basin Agency organized, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the headquarters of the province of Driouch, a meeting on rationalizing the use of water resources for irrigation and controlling the public water domain.
This meeting is part of the national program for drinking water and irrigation water supply 2020-2027.
It aims to raise awareness among water users and farmers about the importance of saving water and protecting the public water domain.
The governor of the province, Abdel Salam Farindou, stressed the royal attention to the water issue, recalling royal directives to rationalize its use and activate the water police.
The agency's director, Narjiss El Amarti, highlighted the challenges facing the Moulouya basin due to climate change and drought, mentioning a structural program including the acceleration of the Beni Azimane dam (44 million cubic meters) and the separation of drinking water and irrigation canals to save 20 million cubic meters annually.
The meeting also addressed the water situation in the province and the legal provisions of the public water domain, especially Law 36-15, emphasizing the role of the water police against illegal well drilling.
