At a broad consultative meeting held on June 18, 2026 at the headquarters of Driouch province, Secretary-General Chafik Hasi presented a precise diagnosis of the maritime fishing sector, in the presence of a high-level central delegation and regional and local officials.
He stressed that the province has a coastline of over 75 km covering seven coastal communes, with significant fish wealth and more than 2,080 fishermen operating on 693 traditional boats.
However, he insisted that potential alone is not enough given structural dysfunctions.
He noted the absence of independent administrative representations of key institutions, the dependence of fisheries services and the ANP on external representations, and the proliferation of over 29 unstructured landing points.
He called for strengthening infrastructure at Sidi Ihssain port, developing maritime training, and announced the province's commitment to provide land for new facilities, including a wholesale fish market and accelerating projects for landing points.
