The meeting room of the annex of the Mediterranean Sea Fishing Chamber in Al Hoceima hosted a communication meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2026, bringing together administrative and professional stakeholders.
The meeting served as a platform for exchanging views and listening to professionals' concerns, particularly regarding wholesale fish trade, a pillar of the maritime fishing sector.
Discussions focused on daily and logistical challenges faced by traders, with their pressing demand for equipped commercial spaces within the port area for preserving, storing and valorizing fishery products.
Participants considered these facilities with modern storage mechanisms essential to guarantee fish freshness and preserve its quality for domestic and foreign markets.
Professionals also called on competent authorities to accelerate the construction of a new ice production unit, given the growing demand for this vital product for preserving fish on board and during marketing.
The meeting also addressed regulatory and legal aspects, including updating payment methods in wholesale fish markets, such as transactions by checks and financial guarantees.
The aim was to formulate a flexible approach for local implementation of these measures, taking into account territorial specificities and the professional and social reality of fish traders.
The meeting concluded that continuous and responsible dialogue between professionals and administrative institutions remains the ideal channel to resolve all existing problems and innovate realistic and balanced solutions for future challenges, ensuring the sustainability and stability of maritime fishing activity in Al Hoceima under the best possible conditions.
