Nador West Med port receives first giant cranes

Three first giant ship-to-shore cranes have arrived at Nador West Med port to equip the eastern container terminal, operated by West Med Container Terminal, a joint venture between the MSC group and Marsa Maroc.
The cranes arrived aboard the Chinese heavy-lift vessel Zhen Hua 35, owned by ZPMC.
This arrival marks the beginning of a broad equipment program for the terminal, which will eventually have 15 quay cranes and 45 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes.
The terminal's capacity, once completed, will reach about 3.4 million TEU per year, making it one of the largest container terminals in the western Mediterranean.
The terminal features a quay of 1,520 meters in length and 18 meters in depth, with storage areas of about 70 hectares.
The first phase is expected to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The project also includes an energy port, a cargo port, and industrial and logistics zones, aiming to create a new economic hub in the eastern region.
