Morocco's Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development announced the postponement of tenders for an integrated liquefied natural gas project at the port of Nador, without giving direct reasons.
The project includes a reception station and a pipeline connecting the port to the national grid, to import gas via Spain and route it to power plants.
The ministry justified the decision by new criteria and assumptions recently adopted, without revealing details.
The postponement comes amid the complexity of global gas markets and changing investment priorities in energy infrastructure.
Morocco aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 52% of installed capacity by 2030 and raise gas consumption from 1.2 billion cubic meters currently to 12 billion cubic meters by 2030, with investments estimated at about $3.5 billion.
The port project also includes an investment of 51 billion dirhams ($5.6 billion), including a floating storage and regasification unit with a capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year.
