At a rally organized by the regional section of the Justice and Development Party in Nador on Saturday, August 22, 2026, party Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane stated that his party's stance on the monarchy is neither strategic nor tactical, but linked to an ideological conviction.
He evoked the concept of bay'a, stressing that it is only broken by rebellion against the sovereign.
He also mentioned the February 2011 unrest, emphasizing that Morocco chose reform in stability, leading to constitutional amendments.
The rally was attended by Abdellah Hamel, the party's regional secretary for the Oriental, and numerous members and sympathizers.
These remarks come amid renewed debate over the monarchy's place in the party's political vision, ahead of upcoming elections.
