Work on Nador's new prison in the Al Amran district of Selouane has passed 95 % and it is expected to open before the end of 2018.
The project covers 20 hectares with capacity for 1,400 inmates, roughly 250 % more than the current facility.
It will include educational spaces, vocational training workshops and sports pitches, plus 1,400 beds to end sleeping on the floor.
A branch of the Mohammed VI Foundation for prisoner reintegration will be housed there, while the old prison will be handed to Marchica Med.
