The name of General Abdelrazzak al-Nadhouri is back on Libya's political scene as a possible candidate for a senior post in the proposed new authority, with Egyptian and Turkish backing, while Saddam Haftar's name is rejected by actors in the country's east and west.
Born in 1955 in the Jebel Akhdar, he graduated from the military academy in the early 1980s and took part in the Chad war, where he grew close to Khalifa Haftar's circle.
He joined the 2011 revolution and stood by Haftar in the 2014 announcement, becoming chief of staff that August.
He later served as military governor-general and led the military team in the 5+5 committee after the 2020 ceasefire.
In 2025 he handed the chief of staff post to Khaled Haftar and took over the national security council.
