New Selouane prison begins operations with transfer of first 100 inmates
The new local prison in Selouane, in the Al Omrane district, has officially begun operations with the transfer of a first group of one hundred inmates from Nador prison, under tight security involving the prison delegation, national security and the royal gendarmerie.
The transfer of the remaining inmates is expected to be completed in the coming days.
Built on twenty hectares, the facility has a capacity of 1,400 prisoners, about 250 percent more than the current prison, and includes educational facilities, vocational training workshops, individual beds and sports fields.
It will also host a branch of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of prisoners.
