Bni Azimane dam in Driouch nears operation
Work on the Bni Azimane dam in Driouch province has reached 98 %, at a total cost of about 1.4 billion dirhams.
Located on the Oued Kert in Tleta Azlaf commune, some 25 kilometres from Driouch, the structure began filling its reservoir last May.
Its storage capacity is 44 million cubic metres and its height about 70 metres above the foundations, with a mixed design combining roller-compacted concrete and compacted earth.
The project aims to strengthen drinking water supply for nearby douars, farm irrigation and livestock watering, while protecting Mezghitane and downstream areas from floods.
The site has generated more than 600,000 workdays since October 2021, under the national water programme 2020-2027, with completion expected in December 2026.
