Bni Azimane dam in Driouch reaches 98% completion
Work on the Bni Azimane dam in Driouch province has reached 98%, bringing it close to commissioning after years of construction.
Located on the Oued Kert in Tleta Azlaf commune, about 25 kilometres from Driouch, the project cost nearly 1.4 billion dirhams.
Its storage capacity is 44 million cubic metres with a height of around 70 metres, using a mixed design of roller-compacted concrete and earth fill.
The reservoir began filling last May.
Remaining work focuses on the embankments, monitoring equipment and technical tests.
The dam is expected to strengthen drinking water supply, irrigate farmland and protect Mehdia from flooding, under the national water programme 2020-2027.
