The King's Attorney General at the Al Hoceima Court of Appeal issued a statement revealing details of the security operation of September 7, 2026, which resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to two gendarmes and a civilian.
The operation aimed to arrest a nationally wanted man involved in hard drug trafficking, forming a criminal gang, organizing illegal immigration, and attempted murder.
During the arrest, the suspect opened fire with a hunting rifle, fatally wounding the officer.
Forces responded with their service weapons in self-defense, wounding the suspect in the leg, who was taken to hospital under guard.
Others tried to intervene with two cars and fire shots to obstruct the operation, but police arrested the main suspect and two others who later went to a clinic.
Weapons and a drone were seized.
The prosecutor's office said some information on social media is inaccurate and the investigation continues.
