The Beni Ensar border crossing between Nador and Melilla experienced a complete halt of traffic on Thursday night after authorities closed the crossing following mass crossing attempts.
This decision suspended the movement of travelers and vehicles, leaving hundreds of people, including Moroccans residing abroad, stranded for hours without official information about reopening.
Car queues stretched from the port of Melilla to the vicinity of the border point.
Meanwhile, Spanish authorities reinforced their security presence near the fence with Civil Guard patrols and military vehicles.
On Friday morning, local authorities announced the end of exceptional measures without publishing an official report.
Furthermore, the government delegation in Melilla denied the figures mentioned by the president of the city's executive council regarding the entry of a maximum of 400 people, considering them mere preliminary estimates, and affirmed that counting and verification continue, with the final number subject to the completion of field and administrative audits.
