Attempt to storm Beni Ensar crossing foiled, riots erupt nearby

The area around the Beni Ensar border crossing leading to Melilla saw tensions on Thursday after an attempt by several hundred young people to storm the crossing was foiled by security authorities who secured the area.
Riots subsequently broke out, with dozens of protesters setting cars on fire, smashing others, and damaging public and private property, requiring a reinforcement of the security deployment to restore calm.
A previous collective intrusion attempt was also foiled.
According to initial reports, the riots broke out after the youths were prevented from heading to the crossing.
This movement comes as candidates for irregular migration are influenced by images of migrants arriving in Ceuta, encouraging groups to attempt to repeat the scenario via Beni Ensar.
