Morocco tops African tugboat deliveries ahead of Nador West Med port

Morocco tops the list of African countries receiving new tugboats, in a dynamic linked to the expansion of ports and major projects.
The company "West Med Towage", a subsidiary of the Spanish group "Boluda", has received two azimuth stern drive tugs, named "VB Pitoya" and "VB Reef", intended for assistance, handling and mooring of ships.
A third tug, "VB Gorougo", is sailing from Singapore via the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, to first assist at the port of Nador, before being assigned to the Nador West Med port, one of the largest infrastructure projects on the continent, expected to enter service in 2027.
The three tugs were built at the "Damen Song Cam" shipyard in Vietnam, measuring 28 meters long and 12 meters wide, with two engines totaling 5120 kW.
Similar deliveries have taken place in Tunisia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tanzania and Guinea, reflecting the growing role of Moroccan port infrastructure in international maritime investment routes.
