With the official filing of candidacies for the September 23, 2026 elections in the Nador constituency, the local political scene has entered a phase of open competition for the four parliamentary seats.
The landscape is dominated by names with electoral experience, such as Mohamed El Mouni (Authenticity and Modernity), Halim Foutat (National Rally of Independents), Mohamed Boudou (Popular Movement), Mahmad Toh Toh (Istiqlal), and Mohamed Aberkan (Socialist Union), in addition to Hakim Chemlal representing the left coalition.
A reading of the electoral map reveals an implicit distribution of influence zones among parties: the PAM relies on its strongholds in Tiztoutine, Afso, Oulad Settout, and Nador, while the RNI seeks to encircle the result through Beni Ensar, Zaio, and Azghengan.
The Popular Movement relies on Ras El Ma, Arkman, and Zaio, while Istiqlal focuses on Bouarg and Zaio, and the USFP reorganizes its forces in Nador city, Iaznassen, Arkman, and Beni Chiker.
This division raises questions about the effectiveness of traditional electoral reservoirs in deciding seats, as candidates must penetrate enemy zones and form shifting alliances until the last moments.
