MP Noureddine Mouddian, former head of the Istiqlal Group for Unity and Egalitarianism, has announced he will not run in the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026.
The decision follows a meeting with Istiqlal Party Secretary-General Nizar Baraka.
Mouddian chose to make way for a new generation of activists after representing Al Hoceima constituency for three decades.
The announcement comes months after an appeals court upheld a six-month prison sentence in a case brought by former MP Rafia El Mansouri over defamation and blackmail.
The party tasked him with proposing names of potential candidates.
