A shooting in the early hours of Tuesday in the village of Overasselt, in the municipality of Heumen, in the Dutch province of Gelderland, left one person dead and two police officers injured.
Officers responded to a report during the night, but the situation escalated into gunfire.
One person was killed at the scene, while the two injured officers were taken to hospital; their injuries are not life-threatening.
The incident occurred near the Ewijkseweg, prompting a large deployment of police, specialized units, and emergency services.
Several areas around the village were cordoned off for searches and evidence collection.
A number of people have been detained, and search operations are continuing, including along parts of the A73 and A76 motorways.
The circumstances and possible motives behind the shooting remain unclear, and the police investigation is ongoing.
