Nador: meeting on water conservation and monitoring of public water domain

The city of Nador hosted an awareness and consultation meeting organised by the Moulouya Hydraulic Basin Agency in partnership with the provincial authorities, aimed at rationalising irrigation water use and stepping up monitoring of the public water domain.
The initiative falls under the national drinking water and irrigation supply programme 2020-2027, using a participatory approach that promotes sustainable farming practices.
The provincial governor, whose speech was read by the secretary-general, stressed that securing water resources is essential to support regional development, citing the Nador West Med port, the desalination plant and the raising of the Mohammed V dam.
The agency's director insisted on shifting from managing scarcity to forward-looking planning in the face of climate change, pointing to the separation of drinking water and irrigation networks and the equipping of boreholes with desalination units.
The meeting ended with recommendations to tighten controls and strengthen coordination between the water, environmental and judicial police.
