The official website of the Driouch provincial council was hacked, leading to the publication of content deemed offensive to public morals, according to a council statement.
The platform, meant to showcase the council's activities, projects and programmes, was diverted to display irresponsible material.
The council strongly condemned the act, which it attributed to unknown parties, calling it an attack on its reputation.
It apologised to residents of the province and visitors to the site, saying the issue was fixed with the company managing the website after the password was changed.
The council announced technical and legal measures, including a lawsuit against those responsible and an upgrade of the site's services.
