Resignation wave shakes Istiqlal Party in Nador, threatens electoral presence
The Istiqlal Party in the province of Nador has seen a wave of resignations after the leadership decided to grant the electoral nomination to Mohammadi Touhtouh, a newcomer, for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026.
Saïd Toumi, president of the Oulad Stout commune and one of the party's leaders, announced his defection to the Authenticity and Modernity Party along with 18 communal councilors during a meeting in Saïdia.
The Oulad Stout commune has significant electoral weight, threatening the party's political presence.
Toumi also mentioned the anger of militants over what he considers marginalization of the base.
This comes as the party counted on the parliamentary seat in the Nador constituency, especially in its stronghold of Zaïo, where leader Mohamed Taybi had won several terms but decided not to run again for health reasons.
These developments may raise fears of losing the parliamentary seat.
