Construction work on an automobile tire factory, billed as the largest in Africa, began Friday in the Betoya industrial acceleration zone in Imjau, Driouch province.
The project is led by Chinese group Shandong Yong Sheng Rubber through its subsidiary Golden Sun Tire Morocco, with a total investment of around 6.7 billion dirhams.
The plant will span 52 hectares and is expected to create 1,737 direct jobs, with a production capacity of 18 million tires per year.
Its proximity to the Nador West Med port will ease access to European and African markets.
Work is expected to be completed early next year.
