Driouch conference highlights scholarly heritage of the Rif

The fifth national scientific conference organised by Driouch's local council of ulema brought together academics, researchers, imams and students to discuss scholarly activity in the Rif during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Speakers examined the contributions of local figures in religious sciences, justice, Sufism and literature, including Mohamed ben Abdelkrim El Khattabi, judge Emhamed Hammou El Kadiri and El Hadj Emhamed Touzani.
Discussions covered the role of zaouias in anchoring religious justice, El Khattabi's intellectual openness to education and the press, and the recording of pilgrimage accounts.
The stated aim is to showcase the region's scholarly heritage and pull its local history out of isolation.
