Nabil El Yazidi, a parliamentary adviser and member of the Popular Movement's political bureau, is mobilising local elected officials and figures in Al Hoceima to back Latifa Aaboute, the Constitutional Union candidate, against Mohamed El Aaraj of the Popular Movement.
The move follows the party's refusal to endorse Aaboute's husband, prompting the couple to leave its ranks.
Aaboute was a Popular Movement MP, elected in 2021 on the regional women's list.
The episode highlights internal fractures in the party in the province, mirroring the situation in Ibn Tayeb in Driouch province.
Fourteen lists are competing for four seats in the Al Hoceima constituency.
