Al Hoceima: prison sentences handed down in drug case
The criminal chamber of the Court of First Instance in Al Hoceima convicted defendants in a drug case, handing down custodial sentences of up to eight and six years' imprisonment, along with fines.
The two defendants were prosecuted for possessing, consuming and trafficking drugs, collective agreement to commit these acts, failure to deposit foreign currency with an intermediary bank within the legal deadline, and illegal possession of narcotics.
The court sentenced the first to eight years' imprisonment and a 20,000 dirham fine, and the second to six years' imprisonment and a similar fine, ordering the destruction of the seized drugs and confiscation of the money for the public treasury.
They were also ordered to pay sums to the customs and indirect taxes administration, with confiscation of a motorcycle and foreign currency.
